Since its establishment in the 1990s, AdvaTel has become a leader in many specialist disciplines within telecommunications. It is led by a highly skilled management team with experience and resources resulting from many years in telecommunications and advanced computing.

AdvaTel is a privately owned Australian company with a comprehensive cross section of the Australian and overseas telecommunications industry as its business partners.

AdvaTel clients span the full spectrum of the industry ranging from large users, PABX companies and service providers to carriers. Over 50 per cent of its sales are to overseas markets. Customers and business partners include Telstra, Optus, Nortel, AAPT, Avaya, Clear, Marubeni in Japan, IBM and Radiance in Singapore, Servion in India, Spark New Zealand, as well as Cisco and NEC.

AdvaTel's software development team interacts closely with its customers and end-users. With close liaison comes better understanding. With better understanding comes great products. Its call centre management software is available in nine languages, and is currently distributed in 18 countries.

Michael Terry
Managing Director

Michael Terry is a cofounder of AdvaTel and a veteran of the telecommunications industry with close to 40 years of experience. He entered the PABX industry in 1968 with the company Standard Telephone & Cables (STC). During his eleven years at STC Michael held positions in both marketing and management before being asked to join NEC as Assistant General Manager for their launch into the PABX business. In 1981, Michael started his own company, Telecost Pty Ltd, which concentrated on the field of Telephone Call Accounting. He sold the company to Ascom in 1987.

His passion for the telecommunications market has seen AdvaTel launch a series of new products onto the Australian and international market. Under his leadership, the company has delivered world firsts in call centre management solutions for PABXs and Centrex services, intelligent automatic diallers for transparent call routing and the more recent integrated solutions allowing dialling , messaging, ‘presence’ and emailing from the desktop. Michael’s strong marketing and sales background underpins the company’s ongoing expansion into new markets.

Michael has qualifications in Accounting and Marketing. He is an accomplished industry spokesperson and has been a member of numerous industry boards, including ATUG and ACIF. Michael is also a non-executive director of a number of private companies.


Phillip Wong
Director of Business Development

Phillip Wong is a cofounder of AdvaTel with 26 years experience in the technology industry. He started his career in the field of electronics developing products to meet the demands of a range of industries. Over the years, he became more involved in production and commercialisation. In 1982, Phillip took on the lead technical position at Telecost, where, for nine years, he supported customers and assisted the technical team in the company’s internationally renowned call billing and advanced call centre management information systems.

As Director of Business Development, Phillip concentrates on business development activity for the export market. He has successfully opened new markets in Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and, more recently, the UK and the Middle East. Phillip is recognised internationally for his comprehensive knowledge of ACD (Automatic Call Distribution) systems and works closely with the world’s major PBX manufacturers in developing AdvaTel’s global market opportunities.

Phillip has a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) from RMIT.


Dmitry Nikitin
Solutions Architect

Dmitry has a Master's degree in Mathematics from Rostov State University, Russian Federation. With over 10 years of experience in Software Development, he started his career designing and developing software systems in the Health and Railway Infrastructure industries. Dmitry started at AdvaTel as a Senior Software Developer and has evolved to Solutions Architect during his 5 years with AdvaTel.

He has established and manages an offshore team of Software Developers as part of the AdvaTel Software Development team, liaising between the local and offshore developers and AdvaTel’s management team.


AdvaTel and the Community
AdvaTel supports a variety of local charities and community initiatives. Each year, AdvaTel invites one or two computer science students from Swinburne University to work at AdvaTel. For six months, the students gain hands-on experience learning from the team within AdvaTel’s R&D division. Additionally, AdvaTel supports the efforts of The Lighthouse Foundation which provides homes for abused and homeless children. AdvaTel co-ordinates and provides donated computer and related equipment to the foundation for its use in the homes and in the foundation's management functions. AdvaTel has now been approached by another charity to donate a second computer training facility for another group of disadvantaged children which will be operational by December 2006. AdvaTel staff assists with the equipment installation often in their own time.
